Though the Heritage Hub is currently closed, the Historical Research Group of Sittingbourne have released a downloadable book followed the 75th Anniversary of VE Day.
It is the memories of a local WW2 D-Day veteran, Ernest Slark, born in Milton Regis, Kent. Detailing his journey through the Second World War with an evocative account of his childhood in Kent and his war experiences, both joyful and stressful.
Over 60% of the proceeds will be donated equally between Action for Children & Cancer Research UK.
His son David Slarks says "Dad's book is published today. On this day 75 years ago, having left his regiment, he was in Krefeld, just inside Germany on his way to Bad Salzuflen where he helped to establish a new unit, the headquarters of the General Headquarters Troops, (GHQ) which was formed to administer the affairs of the British Army after cessation of hostilities".
